Getting away for the holiday came with it's share of frustration. It was much colder in northern California then in so-cal, and as is usually with my luck, the winter coat I ordered did not come in time for me to take it with. Thus, I was forced to reevaluate my original Thanksgiving outfit options and whip up something a little warmer and different. It all worked out and I was super excited to drag Austin out for some pre-dinner photos with the colorful foliage. Yay, orange trees!
As I've said before I've been on a silks and knits kick lately and when I saw this jumper on sale at Madewell, I knew I had to grab it. The olive color stood out and though it may not exactly be seasonally appropriate, you'd be surprised what you can do with some tights and layering. It originally came with a drawstring belt but I thought adding my own would give it a bit more structure and interest.
I wanted to do my hair a bit different, too, and I found this tutorial on the this is glamorous blog for a side chignon featured on Martha Stewart Weddings. My chignon didn't turn out as fancy, since I don't really have a lot of hair to work with, but it was still a fun alternative to my usual 'do's. I definitely suggest trying it out for the holiday party season. (Click on the links for written directions.)
