Date Night @ Blue Plate

DSC_0063 copy

On Sunday, Austin and I went out for an early dinner at the Blue Plate here in Santa Monica. We've been slacking on the date night front, so we finally dragged ourselves out of the apartment to enjoy a little wandering in our neighborhood. After dinner, we went to the mall at Santa Monica Place to scope out some possible christmas gifts. Let's just say I tried on a lot of designer sunglasses. We were lucky enough to enjoy some of the crisp sea air before being hit with torrential downpours but we retreated in the knick of time to catch the season finale of Boardwalk Empire.

The Blue Plate is, what I would call, an upscale diner. They serve breakfast all day and have other traditional foods such as sandwiches, burgers, and wraps. They also offer an in-season specials menu and you know I chose my entree from there. I got a veggie and rice paella bowl, it was very tasty but wasn't anything like paella, just a veggie and rice bowl. (A little saffron does not a paella make.) Austin got a turkey burger, which I tasted and it was delicious. We also got a macaroni and cheese pancake, macaroni and cheese baked into a pancake! It was awesome. The ambience is really nice and quaint. It's small and has a simple decor scheme but feels very warm. We got there around 4:30, perfect for avoiding the dinner crowd and grabbed a seat right away. I was happy with my meal and experience and I'll definitely have to come back to try their breakfast menu.
